Assistant Commissioner of Police Kofi Sarpong has indicated his willingness to accept the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP), as many Ghanaians have tagged him with. ACP Kofi Sarpong has reacted to the news that people are suggesting that he occupies the position of IGP.
In an interview with Joy Prime, ACP Kofi Sarpong disclosed that he would grab the opportunity if it came his way but currently he is serving under George Akuffo Dampare, who happens to be the current IGP.
ACP Kofi Sarpong indicated that he has two more ranks to occupy before he can be appointed as the IGP, which are the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOP) and Commissioners of Police (COP) positions.
Host of the interview, Kpekpo Maxwell Jackson, asked, “You’re ACP now. It means you’re getting closer and closer to IGP. Is that what it is?”
ACP Kofi Sarpong responded, “When you get to COP, all the commissioners can be appointed as IGP. Right now, I have two more steps to get to that level: DCOP, then COP.”
Host: “I would like to see you as an IGP in this country one day. You will be a good leader.”
Kofi Sarpong: “Well, that will be great but for now I am serving my IGP [Dampare] he is doing incredible work.”
