Ghana missed out on the 2024 BET nomination list, and this has raised concerns about the standard of music produced here. Media personality Mercury Quaye disclosed on Hitz FM that Ghanaian artists should not be mocked because none of them got nominated for the BET.

He stated that the artists in Ghana are not performing well, but maybe they are missing out on the criteria that the awards scheme searches for. Mercury Quaye revealed that regardless of the effort an artist puts into his or her music, if he or she doesn’t meet the criteria, there will definitely be a rejection.

He encouraged Ghanaian artists to actually read and become familiar with the criteria of the award schemes because he thinks most Ghanaians do not like reading.

He added that if an artist fails to secure a nomination, it might look like there was no hard work on behalf of the artist, but it could be tiny information that the artist was ignorant about that could lead to that.

He said forming alliances in the music industry could help put Ghanaian artists on the list; otherwise, trying to always be independent and working solo would hamper our chances of making it to the awards in the future.

Ghana and Nigeria are involved in a social media feud following Sarkodie’s “Brag” controversy, and many people will now think Nigerians have an upper hand in mocking Ghanaians based on the BET nomination list.

Sarkodie and other notable artists in Ghana all failed to get nominated in the award scheme, which can easily result from a backlash from Nigerians.
